The End Of Infinity XI: Madonna And Child, Post-Nuclear
Media: graphite, digital color correction Actual size: 11x14"
"If you lose hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you go on in spite of it all. And so today I still have a dream."
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Some people seemed confused by this drawing, asking me questions like, "Why is the baby white when the mother is black?"
But that's the point: the baby and the woman are quite obviously not related. The meaning behind this drawing is, plainly put, a phoenix rising from the ashes, and in this case that phoenix is our tolerance. Sometimes human beings must go through the most devastating of ordeals and nearly lose everything in order to start appreciating what they need most: each other. It is in equality of our suffering that all other equality is born. In a world where survival of the human race is at stake, racial and cultural barriers would most likely be erased or at the very least reduced to a minimum. Hopefully humans can find a way to be tolerant of each other without having to suffer a near-annihilation.
