First things first - I apologize to everyone for the lack of updates. This has been a rather busy year for me, both on personal and professional level... which is a good thing, save for the fact that I'm always rushing and running out of time. I want to thank everyone who has continued to support me and my work - your patience is greatly appreciated!
On to recent news... The End Of Infinity is finally available for purchase in book form, as well as a download.

With The End Of Infinity artwork completed, I am now wrapping up the final revisions of the print version. The book is going to be officially released at Amazon some time this summer, so check back for updates often!
In addition, my first book, Chimaera, will also be available on Amazon and other online bookstores starting some time this month.

I apologize to everyone for the infrequent updates. This has been an extremely busy year for me... which is a good thing, but unfortunately it also means that often I have no choice but to to put some matters on hold. So ahem! I'm still alive and kicking.
The End Of Infinity project is almost complete. The initial date for the book release was the end of June, but realistically speaking it's probably going to be some time in July. To be announced!

Well, the work on The End Of Infinity series is steadily progressing towards its inevitable fate: a book! :)
In addition, I've created a little drawing demonstration while working on one of the latest drawings, Ora Pro Nobis. I get on average an e-mail every two-three days asking me how I shade. When I point them to my graphite tutorial, most come back with an "OK, I understand what you say I should do, but HOW do I do it?" Problem is, it's really not that simple to explain by just writing it.
You can find the demo here (in mp4 format). It's only about 3 minutes long, but hopefully it's enough to give you an idea of what I do. Enjoy!

I've put a start to a new series, The Five Elements. It's sort of a follow-up to The Seven Virtues series, and I plan to unite both series under one cover as a calendar as soon as The Five Elements is complete.
And speaking of calendars... Warriors And Dreamers, a fantasy art 2007 calendar is now available for purchase through Lulu.com. It is a coil-bound, 8,5x11", full-color edition, and contains 12 of my most popular pieces. Available for purchase for $16 through Lulu.com (click on the image below for more info).

Finally, I have completed an updated oil painting tutorial. Check the Tutorials section to see it.
People have e-mailed me about The End Of Infinity series, asked me whether it's dead... Absolutely not! I have resumed the work on it, as you can see above. I'm hoping to complete it and compile it with some of my writing some time in 2007. Unfortunately, with so many other projects I simply cannot devote myself to it entirely, but it's definitely in my mind, as well as on my drawing board.

The Seven Virtues in finally complete. I thoroughly enjoyed this series of portraits, and I will dearly miss working on them.
Special thanks to Conduit XVI, which awarded Temperance as Best Monochrome at the most recent art show! It was definitely an inspiration to go on with this series, and to finish it.
I was asked many times since I began working on this series if I'm planning to create a follow up featuring the opposites of the virtues, i.e. the seven deadly sins. It certainly sounds tempting, but it's unlikely I'll actually do it. One of the reasons is, to be honest, is that everyone and their dog these days has a seven sins series. :)

The Seven Virtues series is more than halfway done, and I expect to be finished with it fairly soon and move on to the long overdue End Of Infinity series. In addition, I'm currently working on a new oil painting tutorial, in which I'll be using a step-by-step of this commission piece.

Well, it has happened! I've gone digital. Someone gave me the latest Painter, so I couldn't hold out any longer. I went out and got myself a graphic tablet. Now that I have it and have used it, I realize this was only a matter of time. Ever since my first encounter with digital art I've been itching to try my hand at it. I have always used digital media in one form or another - to experiment, to edit photos, to tinker with my traditional work, or to fix messed up pieces. But without the right tools, I was in no position to actually paint digitally. I was always a bit fearful to try, my main concern being that I'd love it so much that I'd forsake traditional painting methods.
But now that I have tried it, I can say with confidence that as much as I love it, my traditional painting is in no danger of oblivion. I realize that I've been holding myself back for a rather silly reason. I love traditional media as much as always. The feel, the smell of paint is something that digital media can never replace. But digital media has created a balance in my work, opened a whole new world for me. It's a world full of wonders and potential that I'm planning to revel in for years to come.

After much deliberation I've decided to discard the Naked Adjectives gallery. I've been feeling pressed for time and too overwhelmed with other projects to give the series due attention. That is not to say I will never return to it; I would love to, and I probably will. I just don't see it happening in the nearest future. You can now find all the Naked Adjectives drawings in the Drawings section.
I have finally got around to fixing my Links section. My apologies to all the people who've been waiting all these months for me to get my act together and update it! If you've had a link up here before and don't see it anymore, or if I promised you a reciprocal link and it's not there, please don't hesitate to e-mail me. I'll be sure to add you as soon as I can.

People have been asking me about the mysterious disappearance of the oil painting tutorial. The reason I've taken it off is it's not exactly up to date. The painting used for the tutorial ("Morpheus") is about seven years old, and many of the techniques I favored back then have been long forgotten, for whatever reason, or replaced by newer ones. I'm currently working on a new tutorial.

General news:
Sadly, all things must come to an end, and so does my work on The Pact Of Zeranon illustrations. Watch this page for updates about a possible book, and other project-related news.
My prints are once again available for sale at conventions all throughout the country. Look left for a detailed convention schedule.

General news:
Yes, I'm still alive! Following the birth of my second child in early November I took a much-needed break from both my work and my online presence. I sincerely apologize for all the delayed commissions and unanswered e-mails/comments. I'm back and multitasking at the speed of a caffeinated Energizer Bunny.
So what's new here at mariawilliam.net? A new look, obviously. I was getting tired of the old design, so it didn't take long for me to do away with my old site and put something new in its place. The look and feel are different, but the structure is pretty much the same, so getting around should hopefully be no problem for visitors both old and new.
Yes, a lot of the older work is gone. So is life: away with the old to make way for the new. Some of the old stuff can still be seen in my alternative gallery at Deviant Art.
If you find any broken links, or have any general questions/suggestions, please kindly forward them to me at maria@mariawilliam.net. Thanks! |
