I usually prefer to leave the meaning of my paintings open to interpretation, but lots of people have asked me about this one, so I'll answer. The basic idea was to convey the feelings of those who feel trapped in a life they did not create for themselves, those who are trying to break free. Unfortunately, oftentimes they end up living an illusion, having convinced themselves of success, while in reality they remain bound and broken.
